Led by Finnish guest conductor Dr. Kari Turunen, Laudate Singers invite their audience on a cultural getaway to Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland. A new commission by Eric Wettstein based on a Swedish poem will stand alongside composers like Grieg, Sibelius, Holten, Asgeirsson and even Rajaton.

I’m standing here listening to Marjorie put the finishing touches on the piano accompaniment for AURA’s spring concerts.

“The Promise of Living” begins with excerpts from Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil with the rich harmonies of this monument of Russian sacred music.
We continue with the third movement of Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms (Psalm 150) and end the first half with Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, sung in Hebrew.
The second half will include a selection of spirituals from Michael Tippett’s A Child of our Time, and two selections from Aaron Copland’s The Tender Land– Stomp Your Foot and our title piece, The Promise of Living.

AURA Chamber Choir is pleased to announce that Laudate Singers from Vancouver will be performing at All Saints Anglican Church 3205 27th Street in Vernon on Sunday afternoon October 2, 2016 at 1:30pm.
AURA is hosting this concert as part of Laudate’s fall tour through British Columbia.
Laudate Singers were formed in 1995 by Lars Kaario, conductor, Capilano University choral and conducting instructor and tenor soloist( Lars was the tenor soloist for AURA in our 10th anniversary performance of Bach’s B-minor Mass) . This fine ensemble has toured extensively throughout BC as well as typically performing four full concert programs each year in the Vancouver area. They have recorded seven outstanding CD’s.
Laudate’s program in Vernon will feature music and composers of the British Isles including William Byrd and Ralph Vaughan Williams among many others.
Having heard this very fine choir many times, I cannot overstate your enjoyment in attending this upcoming program in Vernon at All Saints Anglican Church on October 2 at 1:30pm.

Our founding director, internationally recognized composer Imant Raminsh, has put out a call for auditions to enhance our Bass section.

At AURA’s recent Annual General Meeting, the program for our upcoming 38th season was announced by Music Director Imant Raminsh.
Based on the theme “Psalms”, the program will feature excerpts from Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms, Orff’s Catulli Carmina as well as Tippett’s Child of our Time.
The concerts will be performed at All Saints Anglican Church in Vernon on March 25th & 26th, 2017. Further details will be available on this web site in February 2017.
AURA has also announced that its 40th anniversary program will take place in the spring of 2019 once again featuring Bach’s monumental B-minor Mass with full orchestra.
AURA performed this powerful work for its 10th and 25th anniversary celebrations and looks forward once again to this awe inspiring experience to celebrate our 40th year under the direction of our founding conductor, Imant Raminsh.
AURA Chamber Choir presents it’s Spring 2016 concert on March 12 & 13 at All Saints Anglican Church.
Our program will feature Johannes Brahms masterpiece, A German Requiem.
This powerful work features professional soloists, soprano Mia Harris and baritone Mark Wells. The choir will be accompanied this season by our very fine long time pianist Marjorie Close and guest organist Jim Leonard. Jim is well known in his role accompanying Melina Moore’s programs and as All Saints accompanist each Sunday for their jazz service. If you heard Jim’s classical concert last fall on the All Saints organ, you will know that you shouldn’t miss this opportunity to hear Jim and Marjorie working together to present our Brahms Requiem.
